Let us extend to you the warmest welcome to Durango, Colorado and the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Your visit means that you have become a part of the continuous living history of a true American Treasure, the D&SNGRR. You will experience today the same ride, the same views, and the same adventure that our passengers have done for more than 125 years.
Some of us are railfans, some are history buffs, and some just want to see all of God's majesty in the Colorado wilderness. Perhaps you just want it all. The D&SNGRR is first and foremost a railroad.
We operate like all the big trains, except we are 125 years old and we are coal-fired, steam engines.
The D&SNGRR is history made up of original equipment, maintained to perfection, operated and kept up by people today using skills long lost to ordinary endeavors. Our history protects and preserves the very human character that made our country great.
And, the wilderness! On our railroad you will experience Colorado at its best...wildlife, waterfalls, majestic peaks, all from the view point of an 1880's passenger. You will see places you can get to only by foot or by train. Railroad, history, and the wilderness; you get it all on the D&SNGRR.
This year celebrates the 125th birthday of the train's arrival into Silverton, Colorado. It's a special year. Yet, every year, every trip, is unique and special on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Welcome aboard! We're glad you're here.

We like to think of ourselves as more than just the owners of the railroad. More importantly, we feel we are the guardians of history and of this precious national treasure. We not only strive to continue the tradition of railroading for those who come to ride with nostalgia, but also strive to introduce it to those who see it through new and young eyes, as they will be the ones to carry the traditions into the future.
