All Aboard! The Durango and Silverton Railroad Guide Steamworks Brewing Company
Craft beer is part of the fabric of Durango, or as the area is fondly called, "the Napa Valley of Beer." Durango boasts four home-grown and award-winning breweries, but the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge has fostered a special partnership with Steamworks Brewing Co., brewers of the award-winning Steam Engine Lager.
Shortly after the doors of this unique brewpub opened over 10 years ago, Steamworks' craft brewers created the recipe for what has proven to be its flagship beer. In development, it seemed a natural with "steam" powering the brewing process and the D&SNG being a "steam" powered railroad, to feature Durango's key tourism attraction in the name and in the logo and packaging. The graphic designs are developed from a photograph of the D&SNG's #480 steam-powered engine.
Steam Engine Lager is an American classic noted for its malt sweetness, hop spice and smooth, dry finish. A popular American-Style Amber Lager throughout Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona, the beer has won Gold at the 1997, 2000 and 2006 Great American Beer Festival (GABF), Silver at the 1998 World Beer Cup in Rio de Janeiro, Silver at the 2005 GABF and Bronze at the 2003 GABF. Freshness and consistency are keys to the Steam Engine Lager's popularity, as well as the popularity of the complete repertoire of Steamworks' hand-crafted beers.
Steam Engine Lager is available for enjoyment onboard the D&SNG Railroad. |
