All Aboard! Durango & Silverton Rairoad Guide Ouray... Gem of the Rockies
Located along one of America's most scenic drives, The San Juan Skyway, Ouray has been a special destination of world travelers for more than 100 years.

This small, intimate community is nestled in some of the most rugged and towering peaks of
the Rockies. Set at the narrow head of a valley and surrounded on three sides with 13,000-foot
snowcapped peaks, Ouray has been eloquently nicknamed the "Switzerland of America."
Today Ouray is a quaint, romantic town maintaining its original Victorian charm.
Named a National Historic District in 1983, Ouray presents an abundance of old Victorian
architecture. The natural hot springs, so magical to the Ute Indians 128 years ago, still
attracts people from all over the world. No matter what your interests or the season, Ouray, Colorado is sure to be a vacation you will never forget.
You will fully appreciate the mountains and scenery that encompass Ouray when you go
Jeeping, horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, or stay right in town and enjoy Ouray's
newest sport-rock climbing the sheer cliffsides that overlook the town.
Revel in the "playgrounds" of the national forest and public lands that completely surround Ouray and take advantage of its unique location along both the Million Dollar Highway and the San Juan Skyway. For more than half a century, the Ouray Hot Springs Pool has provided a elaxing, familyoriented environment in which to enjoy the soothing pleasures of the hot mineral water year-round. You will feel revitalized after soaking in the naturally pure water that bubbles
up from beneath the San Juan Mountains. Visit Box Canyon Falls & Park and explore Ouray's own wonder of the world. At this most spectacular geological formation, a 285-foot waterfall plummets into a narrow quartzite canyon. The Box Canyon is an easy walk from
downtown Ouray.
Stop by the Visitors Center or Historical Museum and pick up a complimentary Historical Walking Tour brochure. The pamphlet explores the entire town, showcasing private homes and other sites of historical importance.
