The San Juan Mountains have many rivers and streams and high alpine lakes which offer up excellent pan-size trout. If you're lucky, one of the locals may reveal a favorite spot to you!
Ride the chairlift up Silverton Mountain Ski Area and hike down or take a more challenging route up one of the many peaks where you will be mesmerized by the majestic beauty. The variety of difficulty and length of hikes offers something for everyone.
Some of the country's best four-wheel drive roads are in the Silverton area - an ideal base from which to explore ghost towns along the Alpine Loop or take in the beautiful mountains. Rent your own jeep or ride with a guide company.
If you're into vertical, then this is the place for you-the terrain is challenging and the only way to go from here is up! Ride the trails surrounding Silverton yourself, hire a backcountry guide or ride the chairlift up Silverton Mountain Ski Area and ride the newly constructed trails.
