FORT COLLINS CLIMATE

ALTITUDE TIPS

Fort Collins is situated at 4,984 feet above sea level, in a semi-arid climate. The sun is more intense here. You should always wear sunscreen of at least 15 SPF and sunglasses when outdoors, and drink lots of water!

Because there is less oxygen at higher altitudes, give yourself time to adjust. Plan a day of rest before strenuous exercise like downhill or cross-country skiing; pace yourself while hiking or biking.

To decrease the risk of acute mountain sickness at altitudes above 7,500 feet, take it easy, eat high carbohydrate foods and limit salt and alcohol intake.
