Soapstone Prairie
Soapstone Prairie Natural Area offers more than 28 square miles of wide-open vistas, nearly pristine grasslands, and miles of trails. Hikers will enjoy the Towhee Loop with great views (3-mile loop, moderate, hiking only). Mountain bikers like the Mahogany Loop (5-mile loop, moderate, no horses) with its rock formations and connections to other trails. The Cheyenne Rim Trail is a spectacular equestrian route that brings riders to the edge of the "Big Hole," a wonderful view (7.6 miles each way, moderate).
Visit the Lindenmeier Archeological Site to see the most extensive Folsom culture campsite yet found. Seasonally, free activities are offered, including guided hikes, evening programs, presentations and more!
Soapstone is open March-Nov. Be Prepared Plan for extreme weather, carry a map and bring more than enough water, food and clothing. Directions Soapstone Prairie is 25 miles north of Fort Collins. From Fort Collins, take Hwy 1 to County Road 15 north. From CR 15, turn north onto Rawhide Flats Road and continue north to the entrance station.
