Guide to South Park, Colorado
Hiking and Climbing
Hiking options range from scenic paths to multi-day backpacking loops. From County Road 18 near Fairplay, follow Limber Grove Trail ½ mile to some of the oldest trees in the Rockies. Forest Service trails in the Lost Creek and Buffalo Peaks Wilderness areas provide access to some of Colorado's most remote backcountry. Perhaps nowhere else in the U.S. can three peaks exceeding fourteen thousand feet be "bagged" in a single day. Premier rock climbing routes have been established up the
granite walls of Elevenmile Canyon and spires in the Tarryall Mountains near Lake George.
