Guide to South Park, Colorado
Mountain Biking
Dozens of trails in the Pike National Forest around South Park have been designated for mountain biking. While some of these options rival those around Crested Butte or Pikes Peak, most trails in South Park receive very little use. Probably the best-known route is the Colorado Trail (#1776) between Kenosha Pass and Georgia Pass.
This 33-mile trail is easy for the first five miles but gets progressively steeper as it climbs toward Georgia Pass. Another great choice is aseries of little known trails and mining roads along the western edge of South Park. Here, eight different trails and double-tracks may be combined as a 30-mile ride between Trout Creek Pass and Fairplay.
Finally, a series of six connecting loops may be combined into a 40-mile ride between Como, Boreas Pass and Fairplay. Each of these routes bisects open parks, spruce/aspen forests and sub-alpine meadows.
