John TruscelliJohn Truscelli Band - Hear it

What is life without color, without emotion, without music? Take a movie, for example. Remove the soundtrack. Would it have the same impact?

“Music helps people,” says local musician, John Truscelli. “It’s a way of healing people. It’s a way of inspiring people.”

Truscelli believes music is a gift–one given to him to give to others. He’s been playing music since he was a kid growing up on Colorado’s Front Range. Since moving to Summit County nearly 20 years ago, Truscelli and his band–which, depending on the venue, ranges from an acoustic duo to a lively five-member crew-have become a local sound staple, playing more than 200 shows a year.

Fusing Truscelli’s soulful voice with the band’s eclectic mix of guitar, drums, bass, banjo, fiddle and more, the band entertains audiences around the county with its personalized version of Americana rock, unique covers and original songs. (Truscelli recently released his second CD of original work, Pictures.)

“We like to spread the joy, spread the love,” he says. “We try to put across a positive message at all times. We want people to have a good time and dance at the shows and go home singing.”

Escape Together

Whether it’s your first date or your umpteenth anniversary, you won’t lack for words during date night at the new Frisco Escape Room.

Frisco Escape RoomBased on escape-style video games, where you must make sense of clues to escape from a locked room, the Frisco Escape Room offers immersive, physical puzzles without imprisonment.

Owners Ian Greene and Richard Mackoy often create escape rooms inspired by Summit County’s history. In one, for example, you’ll search a 1908 classroom for clues to find Robert Foote’s stolen pocket watch. In an 1800's saloon, clues lead you to the murder weapon.

You enter a seemingly ordinary room. There are locks everywhere. How will you open them? As you scan the room, objects that seemed to have no value at first start making sense. You open a lock and find a letter. Will it contain clues to your next lock? You work together against the clock to solve your puzzle before the allotted time is up.

“It’s super engaging, super fun,” says Greene. “This is an awesome icebreaker. It’s extraordinary for teambuilding. It really brings the kid out in you.” 611 Main St., Frisco, 970-668-9669.

Wednesday Frisco Bluegrass Jam

Frisco has the only small venue dedicated to music in the area, The Barkley Ballroom, and the music scene in Frisco continues to flourish at another favorite local's hangout with the advent of the Wednesday Frisco Bluegrass Jam.

Acoustic musicians of all levels–local or otherwise–gather at Prosit (313 Main St.) each Wednesday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. for an informal but energetic open pick and jam session. For musicians, it’s a chance to meet new people, practice with others and play in front of an audience. For the rest of us, it’s a good excuse to go out in the middle of the week.
