ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK |
Established on January 26, 1915, Rocky Mountain National Park is a living showcase of the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains. With elevations ranging from 8,000 feet in the wet, grassy valleys to 14,259 feet at the weather-ravaged top of Long's Peak, visitors to the park have countless opportunities for breathtaking experiences and adventures.
Elk, mule deer, moose, bighorn sheep, black bears, coyotes, cougars, eagles, hawks and scores of small animals delight wildlife watchers of all ages. Autumn visitors can relax among the golden aspen trees or enjoy the rowdier antics of the elk rut (mating season).
Three hundred fifty nine miles of trails offers countless opportunities to hikers, backpackers and horse riders. Fly fishers, bird watchers and photographers discover the splendor they traveled so far to find. During winter, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing reveal the white-blanketed tranquility of meadows and forests.
Sixty peaks rising above 12,000 feet challenge most intrepid hikers and mountain climbers. More advanced climbers tackle ice climbing and other technical climbs. Don't forget to plan some time to acclimate to the high altitude in order to fully enjoy your adventure in Rocky Mountain National Park. |
