Of Note: 3 to 4-year-olds are taught on special nordic skis that attach to their snowboots. And, the Snow Monsters live in Durango and make daily appearances on the hill.

The first phase of Purgatory Lodge will open this winter season with upgraded skier services and
amenities, including a new ticket office, public restrooms, retail and rental outlets and more. Visit the new Purgy's Day Lodge with extended beach area and outdoor seating. Following the Village upgrades, Purgatory is working on final approval for on-mountain improvements including a new high-speed quad in the Legends Area and new tree runs on the backside.

SNOWDOWN: A weeklong winter festival featuring wild games, hilarious costumes and the huge
Snowdown Parade on Main Street. This year's theme is Snowdown in De Nile.

Saddle up slopeside with the locals at the new Purgy's Day Lodge bar and sip on locally made beer from
Ska and Steamworks. Or head to the Old Schoolhouse and get tips on the best spots for tomorrow from Purg Ski Patrol and Instructors.
ALTERNATE DAY
Give your legs a break and take a
trip into history on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. The winter train departs Durango and travels the same route miners and cowboys used over a century ago deep into the wilderness of the San Juan Mountains. www.durangotrain.com
