Yet there are millions of venom toxins in nature that remain unexplored. Biomedical scientist and inventor Zoltan Takacs collects snake, scorpion, jellyfish, and other venoms from around the world. Back in the lab, using cutting-edge genomics, he creates combinatorial venom libraries to identify leads for novel medicines.

Maria Delgado, Assistant Professor in CSU’s Department of Design and Merchandising, will highlight the online library featuring architectural historic buildings across the state. Celebrate National Coin Week, April 16-22! Observed every third week of April, National Coin Week was established to attract the general public to the enjoyable hobby of coin collecting. This year’s theme, “Our Money, Our Heritage, Our America” focuses on how our money tells the story of our country and helps form our national identity.The Money Museum in Colorado Springs is celebrating National Coin Week all week long with free museum admission April 18-22, with an open house event on Saturday (10:30 am-5 pm). Open house activities include:• Mini-Mint demonstrations throughout the day. Guests can receive a freshly-minted National Coin Week medalette.
• The “Plinko” prize drop, where every child can drop a plinko chip to win a prize.
• A raffle drrawing to win 30 seconds in the Cash Tornado, where the winner gets to keep all the cash they can grab.
• Numismatic door prizes and trivia questions for a chance to win a silver coin.There are also educational resources, live webinars, youth activities and more throughout the week available at NationalCoinWeek.org.

Traditional Hawaiian Quilting: History, Characteristics, and Techniques

Traditional Hawaiian Quilting: History, Characteristics, and Techniques will be presented from 6-7:30 pm Tuesday, February 14, at the Global Village Museum of Arts and Cultures. Jean Krause, a Hawaiian quilter for over 25 years, will explain the significance of various Hawaiian quilt design elements. A native of Oahu, Krause will also demonstrate the creation of a traditional Hawaiian quilt. International Trivia Night

John Roberts, Fort Collins native and traveler extraordinaire, will host an International Trivia Night from 6-7:30 pm Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Global Village Museum of Arts and Cultures. The fun and friendly event will feature some 50 questions, with teams of six competing for prizes. Light refreshments will be served. Admission is $10 per person, and advance reservations are required at globalvillagemuseum.org. Partial teams or full six-person teams are welcome with a two-step process. First, team members should make individual reservations. Second, an email with the names of team members must be sent to the Museum’s Outreach Coordinator at outreach@globalvillagemuseum.org.
