South Park Fly Fishing

South Park fly fishing is known internationally for its trophy trout waters.

The South Park fly fishing has two reservoirs and fifty miles of river designated as Gold Medal Water, by the Colorado Division of Wildlife.  These waters possess the highest quality habitat and offer the greatest potential for catching large trout in Colorado.  Other streams are equally productive but relatively unknown outside the local area. Perhaps the best-known lakes in South Park are Eleven Mile and Spinney Mountain Reservoirs.  Along with Antero and Tarryall Reservoirs, these lakes consistently produce some of Colorado's largest browns, rainbows, and cutthroats.  Fairplay is the official Trout Fishing Capital of Colorado.  One of the best places to get kids started is Fairplay Beach, a small reservoir on the edge of town. Established in 2002, South Park Fly Fishers was the only program of its type.

Several private streams have been leased to public flyfishing access through the program.  These are historic cattle ranches where anglers are ensured of a private fishing experience for the day.
