Weather

Summer temperatures average in the 70°s to 80°s during the day and can drop into the 40°s in the evenings.

The Vail Valley has very low humidity and is very dry. The sun shines approximately 320 days a year. The weather can change quickly in the mountains, always be prepared for wind, sun and rain.

Docent-Led Tour of Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, Public tours are offerered Monday, Thursday and Saturday from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day at 10:30am. Tickets available at the Schoolhouse Giftshop. $5

Adult Full Day Nature Hike, Vail Nature Center, Every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the summer naturalist guides from the Nature Center lead participants on all-day hikes throughout the Holy Cross and Eagles Nest Wilderness. Hikes are at a pace that allows participants to enjoy the flora and fauna along the trail. Participants should be in healthy condition and accustomed to the altitude. Cost is $50, or $45 for Vail Recreation District residents. Reservations are required.

Taste of Vail, April 2 - 5, 2014, The nation's premier spring food and wine festival featuring food and wine tastings, interactive seminars and huge mountain-top picnic.

Pink Vail, April 5, 2014, Pink Vail is the world's biggest ski day to benefit patients and survivors. Last year, the event drew in over 1,300 participants and raised $250,000 for survivorship programs at Shaw Regional Cancer Center. Enjoy on-mountain competitions, a group descent down Vail Mountain, and live music.

Feast! Vail, May 23-26, 2014 Created to inspire guests with a weekend packed full of delicious culinary experiences and Vail adventure. FEAST! Vail kicks-off the summer season with the adventurous, Memorial Day Weekend culinary celebration. Renowned Vail chefs will collaborate and compete with visiting guest chefs. Vail Valor Races; Valor Running & Fitness Expo, May 25-26, 2014, "The Vail Valor Races is a 2-day running celebration to kick off spring in the mountains and recognize the Memorial Day holiday. It begins on Sun, May 25th with a dog-friendly afternoon event, the Valor Canine X-Country Run/Hike and post-race ""Yappy Hour."" Pets and service dogs welcome.

Go Pro Mountain Games, June 5-8, 2014, The country's largest celebration of mountain sport and lifestyle drawing more than 3,000 athletes and 53,000 spectators to Vail each year. The GoPro Mountain Games showcases more than 25 sports in professional and amateur categories for more than $100K in prize money. Event venues range from Golden Peak to Vail Mountain, Solaris Plaza, Vail Pass, Homestake Creek and now Lionshead Village.

Vail Arts Festival, June 27-29, 2014, 2014 marks the 30th anniversary of the Vail Arts Festival, featuring 100 artists selling original works of art in thirteen mediums in an outdoor Festival settting. The event is located in Lionshead Village and the Arrabelle at Vail Square. Festival-goers are able to view and purchase original works of art in painting, drawing, metalworks, glass, wood, fiber, mixed media, jewelry, sculpture, digital art, ceramics, graphics & printmaking and photography. The event is free to attend and offers free children's activities and entertainment.

Bravo! Vail, June 27 to August 2, Bravo! Vail is the only festival in North America to host three of the world's finest orchestras in a single season. Next summer, The Dallas Symphony Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic take up residence in Vail, featured in programs of the great classics, plus jazz and pops. In addition, world renowned chamber music artists perform a diverse and eclectic chamber music series.

Vail Jazz Festival, June 27 to Sept. 1, 2014 "The 20th Anninversary Vail Jazz Festival - a 12 week-long program of jazz concerts consisting of four distinctive performance series. The Vail Jazz Festival is a summer-long celebration of America's musical gift to the world - Jazz."

Vail Lacrosse Shootout, June 29 to July 6, 2014. The Vail Lacrosse Shootout, now in its 42nd year, is an invitational lacrosse tournament that includes approximately 96 teams from all over the country. In 2014 our Men's Elite Division will include several international teams that will be playing in the Shootout as a warm up to their participation in the World Championships being held in Denver in 2014. The Vail Shootout takes place over eight days in the beautiful mountain resort of Vail, Colorado and features some of the most competitive, exciting lacrosse action you'll see. In 2014 the Shootout starts on June 29 and concludes on July 6. Games are played at several field venues in the Vail area including the Vail Athletic Field, Vail Mountain School and Donovan Park in Vail; Homestake Peak school and Eagle-Vail stadium in Eagle-Vail; Nottingham Park in Avon and Freedom Park in Edwards. The 2014 Shootout will feature U-19 High School Boys and Girls Divisions with approximately 24 teams in each; Men's and Women's Elite Divisions (collegiate and post-collegiate players) with approximately 24 teams in each; and a Chumash event for boys and girls from approximately ages 8 through 14. Our venue at the Vail Athletic Field will feature a vending tent where souvenir Vail Lacrosse Shootout apparel can be purchased. Tournament programs with game schedules are available at all field locations.

Vail Summer Bluegrass Concert Series, July 2, 7, August 13, 27, 2014. The inaugural Vail Summer Bluegrass Series will take place in Lionshead Village summer 2014. The Series will host nationally known bluegrass bands, local-to-CO craft breweries and feature the Lionshead Merchants Association.

Vail America Days, July 4-5, 2014, Vail America Days is the annual 4th of July Festival in beautiful Vail, Colorado. Kick It 3v3 Soccer "Vail Super Regional", July 26-28, 2014, Kick It is celebrating 23 years as the first and largest national 3v3 grassroots soccer tournament tour in the U.S., the original Disney World qualifier, providing over 5,000,000 kids and families with a fun, safe, healthy sports experience.

Vail International Dance Festival, July 27 August 9, Celebrating its 26th season the Vail International Dance Festival, lead by Artistic Director Damian Woetzel, is a celebration of dance held July 27 - August 9, 2014 in Vail, Colorado, features many forms of dance, and boasts an international reputation and dedicated following. The year the Festival will host 9 performances at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater, 2 performances at the Vilar Performing Arts Center, a series of master classes and free interactive events in the streets of Vail at Solaris Plaza and Arrabelle Square. Artists that have visited the Festival include: New York City Ballet MOVES, BalletX, Martha Graham Dance Company, Paul Taylor Dane Company, Pacific Northwest Ballet and stars from the Royal Ballet, New York City Ballet, America Ballet Theater, Alvin Ailey Dance Company, the Moscow Stanislavsky Ballet, Hamburg Ballet and Harlem Dance Company. The 2014 Festival line-up will be announced in January 2014 and tickets will go on-sale March 25, 2014.

KEEN Kids Adventure Race, August 7-10, 2014, "The 2014 KEEN Vail Kids Adventure Race is scheduled for August 7-10 - and will be bigger and better than ever! Exciting new additions to the expanded event:
•Three full days of racing for Beginners (ages 6 to 9), Intermediate (ages 6 to 11) and Expert (ages 10 to 14)
•Free Family Adventure Expo with activities like climbing wall, Strider bike race for kids ages 2 to 4 and the chance to meet Vail Avalanche Rescue Dogs

Vail Rocks, August 15-17, 2014. "Vail Rocks 2012, 2013, is a musically charged hike up Vail Mountain to benefit the Love Hope Strength Foundation. This gorgeous mountain has quickly become the flagship hike for LHS in the United States. Participants hiked alongside musicians, cancer survivors and supporters with acoustic jams along the way. Past participating artists have included; Mike Peters, Big Country, G Love, Brett Dennen, Cy Curnin of the Fixx, Miles Zuniga of Fastball, School of Rock and more.

USA Pro Challenge Cycling, August 23, 2014, Final Stage of 2014 USA Pro Challenge will Take Riders Through Iconic Parts of Colorado from Boulder through Golden to Denver

Gourmet on Gore, August 29 - September 1, 2014, This unique culinary festival offers an open-air tasting with world-class wine, beer and spirits paired with culinary delights from Vail's top restaurants right in the heart of Vail. Gourmet on Gore offers free admission and a variety of additional pairing events and a Tasting Tour to kick things off on Friday, August 29 which benefits a local charitable organization. The weekend continues through to Labor Day with the unique, open-air tasting experience of Brunch on Bridge Street.

Oktoberfest, September 5-7 and September 12-14, 2014, Munich comes to Vail for the world's greatest celebration of beer, music and autumn - Oktoberfest! Vail Automotive Classic, September 7, 2014, "The most comprehensive auto, aircraft and motorcycle show in Western Colorado is back for it's fifth year. The Vail Automotive Classic will once again host a weekend filled with automobile and aircraft events in the Vail Valley, September 6th & 7th, 2014.

Colorado Grand Finish Line and Concours, September 7-12, 2014 The Colorado Grand® is an annual charity tour for 1960 and earlier sports and race cars of distinction. The event was founded in 1989 by Englewood automotive enthusiast Bob Sutherland. Every September at the peak of the fall color season approximately 85 vintage cars are driven in this relaxed, non-competitive event, covering 1,000 miles through the Rockies in five days.

The America Cup Fly Fishing Tournament, September 9-14, 2014, The America Cup Fly Fishing Tournament is a catch and release, fly-fishing tournament with International, U.S., Youth and Adaptive anglers competing on the best trout waters in Colorado.

Lionshead Wine, Spirit and Chocolate Festival, September 26-27, 2014, A two-day event featuring Colorado wine and spirit growers who are on hand for tastings, serving, and selling their fruits of the vine. In addition to the great wine, creative Chocolate dessert samplings created by a balance of local pastry chefs and outside vendors will be for sale to patrons wishing to pair the wines with chocolate.

Birds of Prey, December, The Birds of Prey downhill course is regarded as one of the most difficult downhill courses in the world and features a vertical drop of 757 meters. The Birds of Prey contains an average gradient of 27 percent, increasing to 45 percent in the middle of the course and again in the final third of the course.
