Soft skiing in the warmth of the Colorado sun, local beers under a bluebird sky, live music, skiing in costume, and hilarious competitions—this is spring in the mountains. As the season winds to a close, here’s where to find the best parties in the Colorado Rockies this spring.

Crested Butte

April 5-7, 2019

Head to Crested Butte for their annual SkiTown Breakdown to help close down the ski season with some great music. This year, check out The Main Squeeze—a jam and party band—on Saturday, and on Sunday, you can see hip hop artist Chali 2na and watch Cut Chemist spin some DJ magic. This annual spring mountain gathering is completely free, and it brings locals and visitors to the base of Crested Butte Mountain Resort for dancing in the sun and snow.

Breck Pride brings a fun week of live music, daily après, cocktail nights and drink specials, and a Color Run Parade in costumes down the mountain. Breck Pride is for everyone: LGBTQ and straight visitors and locals, skiers, snowboarders, beginners, experts and supporters. Celebrate Summit County’s friendly spirit beginning with a welcome reception, followed by a cocktail party, a ski guide program, BBQ, daily après ski parties, and even drag queen bingo on Friday night. A charity ski race and dance parties round out the event, which is sure to be a blast.

Not technically in the mountains, but a must-do for diehard beer lovers, Collaboration Fest has been dubbed America’s most creative beer festival. This year for its sixth annual event, more than 200 breweries will come together at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Denver to showcase unique beer projects. The craft suds come from Colorado-based breweries partnering with other breweries from around the state and world to brew something exciting. Tickets include unlimited tastings and the fest features food vendors and live music.

As Colorado’s festival ringleader, Telluride draws top national artists year-round. This year, their April 7 ski season closer is a gathering you definitely won’t want to miss. First, join DJ Soul Atomic for a dance party and witness epic spills at the annual pond skim competition at Gorrono Ranch. There are only 100 spots available for the pond skim, but even just spectating is a ton of fun. After 2pm when the festivities end at Gorrono Ranch, make your way to Mountain Village Heritage Plaza to keep the party going strong with a free concert to help send off Telluride Ski Resort’s 2018-2019 season.

April 7, 2019

Keystone Resort’s annual Slush Cup returns on Sunday, April 7 with pond skimming competitions for both kids and adults. Bring a lawn chair for front row seats to watch skiers and snowboarders launch off a daring jump and skim across the water in their most outrageous costumes, with a contest for the best dressed and best overall. Expect lots of laughs and splashes at this Keystone spring tradition.

April 7-8, 14–15, 2019

To help close out Aspen Snowmass for the season, join them for music, drinks, and bacon. On Saturday, April 7, Buttermilk Ski Area hosts their annual Bacon Appreciation Day, with live music, an outdoor bar, bacon and beer happy hour, and plenty of bacon-themed food like donuts, waffles, and other delicious treats. On Sunday April 8, remember to wear your craziest costume as you check out Aspen Highlands for their Party at the base, with a DJ, food, and drinks. If you’re around the following weekend, you can don your favorite bikini or swim trunks to join the swimsuit ski parade at Elk Camp as they attempt to break a North American record, or get ready to drink and dance at the 80’s Prom Party at the Sundeck on Aspen Mountain on Sunday the 15th.

April 11–14, 2019

Now in its 15th year, Spring Back to Vail commemorates the close of the winter ski season with a four-day festival and party. Catch the World Pond Skimming Championships, live music, aprés parties, giveaways, specials at local businesses and restaurants, and more. Attend the annual Tikis and Tunes Luau at Sarge’s Mid-Vail on Saturday for music, a pig roast and drink specials. On Sunday, sit back and watch the wacky World Pond Skimming Championships at Golden Peak.

Copper Mountain

April 20–21, 2019

Close out the season at Copper’s annual spring Sunsation festival, serving up live music, pond skimming, and the World’s Largest Easter Egg Hunt. Red Bull Slopesoakers combines a slopestyle rail jam with a pond skim. Competitors earn points for Costume & Creativity, Tricks & Style, Skimming Steez, and Crowd Factor. A Retro Shred-a-thon will benefit the High Fives Foundation, with participants lapping the American Eagle lift as many times as possible while wearing their best retro gear. On Sunday, join the World’s Largest Easter Egg Hunt and scour the mountain for 65,000 eggs spread over 2,500 acres, some filled with prizes. This year, Woodward Copper Barn will be hosting even more festivities to celebrate their 10th anniversary.
