Snow White – Littleton Youth Ballet

Littleton Youth Ballet, in association with Littleton Ballet Academy, presents an encore performance of its original production of Snow White. Set to music by Gabriel Faure and Gustav Holst, the production features 70 dancers ranging from ages 8 to 18. There are also two guest artists that are also appearing with the production. Former Colorado Ballet principal dancer Francisco Estevez will be reprising the roles of the Huntsman and Prince again and perennial favorite Scott Elliott will be performing as the Hag. The role of Snow White is shared by three young dancers: 16-year-old Olivia Key from Littleton, 15-year-old Sofia Holmes from Lone Tree, and 17-year-old Caroline Owen of Denver. The dancers have all performed leading roles before, although this is Owen’s first-time performing Snow White. The girls are all very different in style and presentation, as well as height. But all three are excited to perform the role and they love that the ballet combines ballet and acting.

Littleton Youth Ballet strives to present the most professional production possible. The company rents professional backdrops and uses full sets including 7 beds for the dwarves. Dancers rehearse up to three times a week (with its youngest dancers rehearsing only once a week), in addition to their regular class schedule.

Snow White is a well-known fairy tale that has been around for centuries. The most famous version of Snow White is the one collected by the Brothers Grimm in the 19th century. But it’s not normally done as a classical ballet. All of the choreography is by co-artistic director Alison Jaramillo who brings her own artistic flair to the story, making this ballet production distinct and captivating in its own right.

Littleton Youth Ballet hopes to be able to introduce young families to the arts in a family friendly setting. Productions are age-appropriate, visually engaging, and emotionally resonant. Through colorful costumes, expressive choreography, and beautiful music, this adaptation is a wonderful way to introduce classic stories and ballets like Snow White to a new generation of children. There is a meet and greet with the characters after every show so that children can see the young ballerinas up close. All performances are under two hours with intermission.

Performances are Sunday, September 17th at 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm and Monday, September 18th at 6:00 pm at the Lone Tree Arts Center. Tickets range between $26 to $40 and can be purchased by calling (720) 509-1000. Tickets can also be purchased by going to www.littletonyouthballet.org.

In today’s chaotic, challenging world, we often don’t know where to turn for help. Little did we know that life’s most valuable lessons lie within the undead. Finally, zombies engage us with musings on life, death, and everything in between. They show us that brains aren’t everything…you are what you eat…and what doesn’t kill you makes you…more alive.All I Really Need to Know I Learned from Being a Zombie will be performed every Saturday and Sunday @3pm, on the trail at Chautauqua Park in Boulder, CO.
Check in and meet at the picnic pavilion behind the Chautauqua Auditorium. Our hikes are at a moderate level/pace and last no more than 2 hours. When you first arrive, you will be greeted by your hiking guide who will check you in and lead the way down the trail to each scene location. Once you arrive at a scene location, you can sit back and relax to watch a scene from the production. Once the scene is complete, we all gather our things and hike to the next location.During an Arts in the Open production, you will be hiking along a moderate trail. We encourage all audience members to wear proper hiking attire and shoes. We also recommend you bring: Weather appropriate clothing, water, snacks, hats, umbrellas, sunscreen, and blankets to sit on and/or lightweight camping chairs. There will be water and granola bars available for a suggested donation.

Vail Opera Camp presents “The Tinker of Tivoli”

Step into a whimsical world of mischief and melody as young singers from across the nation studying at the National Children’s Chorus Vail Opera Camp present “The Tinker of Tivoli,” bringing uproarious laughter and toe-tapping tunes in a hilarious youth opera adventure that will leave you grinning from ear to ear! The talented kids present a free and fully staged and costumed production of the comic opera which is based on the Brothers Grimm Tale “The Gallant Tailor” and features music by Giacchino Rossini written and arranged by Michael Jacobsen.The show is free and open to the public and will take place at Harry A. Nottingham Park’s Avon Performance Pavilion.Each year, some of the nation’s best and the brightest young singers travel from across the country to Vail Colorado to take part in the National Children’s Chorus’ prestigious Opera Camp. On their second to last day of camp, the campers present a fully realized staged operatic performance to the public.This year’s production, the Tinker of Tivoli, is set in the style of a Rossini comic opera and is sung throughout. Its energetic musical score features music drawn from Gioacchino Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville” and “La Cenerentola.”The story follows Beppe, a tinker, and his meteoric rise and subsequent fall in village popularity. Tundra – Dance Performance

Tundra is dance performance on July 28th and 29th at the Truss House in RiNo Denver. The purpose of this work is to reframe the misconception that these are cold, frozen, lifeless places disconnected from human existence are actually teeming with life, in constant motion and never-ending transition–from moving rocks and shifting glaciers to curious pikas burrowing deep in the snow. Our goal is to have the audience walk away with a deeper connection to the tundra, a newfound appreciation of how climate change in the mountains will affect us down here in the front range, and a better understanding of why we should protect this ecosystem. The performance is family friendly and intended to build an emotional connection to this particular environment and its related issues, while our environmental partner will help address scientific questions and channel the audience’s emotions into actions.

Introduction to Liberation Arts and Community Engagement

CALLING ALL EDUCATORS, LEADERS, PROJECT MANAGERS, AND ANYONE ELSE INTERESTED! Join Local Theater Company on July 23, 3:30-5:30 pm MT for a public workshop, Introduction to Liberation Arts and Community Engagement, with acclaimed educator Dr. Brent Blair.This two-hour introductory workshop will provide newcomers and those familiar with this type of work with the basic foundations of Theatre of the Oppressed (TO), a form of community-devised theater making that endows citizen participants with agency to craft and perform stories, and some post-colonial tenets of Liberation Arts and Community Engagement (LACE). The workshop includes basic theoretical foundations of TO/LACE, essential game playing and social preparation for collective arts projects for social change, and the fundamental tools of devising and performing an interactive Forum Theatre scene around a specific issue relevant to the participants.
