Front Range Open Studios Tour Weekend
September 10 - 11, 201617275 Colonial Park Dr., Monument, CO
Front Range Open Studios is a group of full-time professional artists who know the value of sharing their art with their neighbors. On the weekend of September 10th and 11th, these artists will open their studios to the public, to share their gifts, talents, and techniques.
This weekend event is far more than your typical open studio event. This is a festival of the arts with an emphasis on education and participation. This is the only studio tour in the state where every location is the actual working studio or workshop for the artists and craftsmen. Unlike other studio tours you will see far more than finished product. You will see how each artist and craftsman has transformed his or her working space with tools, music, books, and specialized materials into their own unique sanctuary, where they find creativity and inspiration.
Award winning Richard Pankratz will show the step-by step process of creating a bronze figure and how he mixes ceramics, glass and bronze to make heirloom quality furniture and vessels. Kathleen Krucoff will demonstrate how she transforms metals with the ancient techniques of Chasing and Repousse into a breathtaking bracelet. At Nancy Bonig’s studio you can watch the various steps in creating kilnworked glass and even create your own! You can meet the alpacas that provide the fiber for one artist’s home décor and art clothing. Watch how Dan Rieple, whose furniture was featured in this year’s Parade of Homes, makes wood bend to his will at his workshop! Mediums of creative expression include oil painting, watercolors, wood turning, metalsmithing, fine furniture making , sculptures in bronze, iron and steel, functional and decorative ceramics, kilnworked glass, batik, jewelry design and fabrication , artistic quilting, handmade paper sculpture and fiber arts. There will be demonstrations of techniques at all locations the entire weekend and at some locations you will even have an opportunity to create your own work of art! Register for drawings for gift certificates to local restaurants and for original works of art by some of the artists! Free and for the entire family!
