About Spinney Mountain Park

At Spinney Mountain State Park, the air is clean and fresh. The view of the Collegiate Peaks is spectacular. The birds and wildlife are abundant. However, it’s the fishing that makes Spinney Mountain special. This day-use-only park, located west of Colorado Springs, and situated along the South Platte River in South Park, has Gold Medal fishing waters, yielding trophy-sized cutthroat, northern pike, rainbow and brown trout. Only flies and artificial lures may be used.

Bird watching is spectacular, with more than 220 species of water, wading, shorebirds, raptors, and songbirds. Boating and sailing are allowed, but no water skiing, swimming, wading, scuba diving, or jet skis. No camping inside the park; however, campers can stay at Eleven Mile State Park, 8.8 miles east. The reservoir’s islands are closed to public use. The park is closed when the reservoir is iced over. Open season is approximately April 15 to November 15. — Back to All State Parks.
