About Vega Park

Vega is a great year-round destination for enjoying the Colorado outdoors. Vega is Spanish for “meadow,” in this park, visitors will find lush montane meadows filled with wildflowers. At 8,000 feet and situated on the northeast edge of Grand Mesa, and about an hour’s drive from Palisade (40 miles). The meadows and surrounding slopes of aspen and mountain shrubs beckon recreationists and wildlife watchers. There’s easy access to hundreds of miles of Grand Mesa National Forest trails that are great for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Horse corrals are available for rent. The 900-acre reservoir is good trout fishing and opportunities for sailing, canoeing, jet and water skiing, and other water sports. In summer, osprey nest atop a platform at the lake’s edge and can be seen hunting above the water. Four campgrounds surround the lake, with 113 sites including basic campsites and campsites with electrical. For a different overnight experience, there are five cozy, year-round cabins. The Meadows Group Picnic Area has gained popularity for outdoor mountain weddings. – Back to all State Parks.

Traveling Tip

If you’re passing through Palisade on your way to Vega State Park during late summer. We highly recommend stopping at a farmer’s market and picking up some fresh produce. Palisade peaches are some of the best and will bring extra delight to your camping trip.
